We believe that “home” is more than four walls and a roof over your head. That’s why we provide a haven for families with children in the hospital, complete with all the comforts of home with a community of support.

Close to the medical facilities of Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital, our Ronald McDonald House at QEII is a purpose-built home. With 47 invitingly furnished guest rooms and well-equipped on-site facilities, helping make the lives of families far from home just that little bit easier.

Staying at Ronald McDonald House at QEII

At Ronald McDonald House at QEII, families have access to an array of facilities and programs to help make each day a little easier.

Facilities include a gym, recreation room with a range of arcades and games, family lounges, laundry, children’s playroom, rooftop garden and a domestic and commercial kitchen.

While families can cater for themselves using the domestic kitchen, we do provide a continental breakfast each morning and a nutritious evening meal for families during their stay.

Play and Learning sessions catering to children ages 4 and up are run Monday to Friday. The sessions help children keep connected to their learning, offer respite for parents, guardians and carers as well as provide an opportunity for families to connect.

Rooms

Our House offers four different room types, ranging from fully self-contained isolation units, rooms equipped with wheelchair accessible bathrooms, larger spaced rooms and standard rooms.

All rooms are fully furnished with an ensuite bathroom with toiletries and a smart TV.

Laundry facilities are available throughout your stay and are located on the ground floor behind the commercial kitchen.

Play and learning

Located on level 2, the Bass Family Foundation Learning Centre aims to provide patients and their siblings aged 4 and over with opportunities to keep connected to their learning, whilst also providing parents, guardians and carers with necessary respite time.

Sessions are facilitated by a qualified teacher with additional support from our Ed Head volunteers and run Monday to Friday.

  • Morning Session: 9.00am – 11.00am
  • Afternoon Session: 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Recreation Spaces

On the ground floor there is an outdoor play area, located off the dining room as well as a playroom, with play spaces, toys, a tv and lounge area.
 
The Recreation Centre is located on Level 3 of RMH at QEII. It contains a range of tabletop and arcade games and a gym. On Level 4 you will find the rooftop garden. This tranquil outdoor space offers seating areas, play spaces and a fairy garden, perfect for unwinding after a long day of appointments.
 
Please note: children must always be accompanied by a parent, guardian or carer in the House.

Meals

While families can cater for themselves using the domestic kitchen, we do offer a continental breakfast each morning and a nutritious evening meal for families during their stay.

Breakfast consists of cereals, pancakes, toast, preserves, fruit as well as tea and coffee facilities
Our commercial chefs take care of dinner, offering a range of nutritious and delicious meals each night.

Families are provided with lockers to store pantry items as well as cold food storage lockers, these are located on the ground floor near the domestic kitchen facilities.

Support during your stay

Our staff and volunteers are always there to lend a helping hand.

  • Our dedicated volunteers can be seen at the front desk to welcome you, they run Saturday movie nights at the House, help transport families to appointments and more
  • Our Family Liaison Officers are on hand to assist families throughout their stays.
  • Our Family Support Coordinators are able to assist families with Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS), managing hospital appointments and travel.
  • Our Wellbeing Coordinator offers one-on-one counselling sessions for both children (patients and their siblings) and their parents, guardians or carers.
  • Our Accommodation Coordinator is available to assist you with your booking enquiries.

Stays at Ronald McDonald House WA are fee free to families who are eligible for the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS).
